Avoid Facing the problems related to Oversize PST files

Microsoft Outlook PST file has a limitation on the file sizes. PST format is used by the MS-Outlook for storing important data. If the data in the Microsoft Outlook increases then the .pst file size automatically increases. The limitation is different for different versions. If the file size goes above 2 GB then the PST file gets corrupted and becomes unusable. This is the case for MS-Outlook 2002 and prior versions. Once PST file exceeds the size, application stops working properly and you suffer a lot of problems in  performing mailing operations like sending or receiving. MS Outlook offers Inbox repair tool option to deal with such problems. However, if the problem is not resolved and you still face the problem, use a third party Split PST File software which Split Large PST File into small PST files and makes it usable again.

MS-Outlook 2003 or 2007 does not give frequent problems related to size limitation. Because it uses new PST file format that uses size limitation upto 20 GB. But MS-Outlook 2002 and earlier versions shows different error messages due to increased size of PST file. This results in corruption of PST files. The reason behind the corruption are discussed below:

(1) Fatal Virus attacks

(2) System crash

(3) Improper shutdown

(4) Interrupted compaction

(5) Oversize of PST files.

Mentioned above are the measures that lead to corruption of the PST files. Oversize of the PST files is the important cause for the corruption of the PST file  that can be easily and quickly cured if the large PST file gets split into several small PST files or you can use higher versions of MS-Outlook.  

To resolve  this issue related to increased size of PST file you may first run the inbuilt Inbox Repair Tool that comes with MS-Outlook. Different steps are discussed below:

(1) Exit Outlook.

(2) Click on tool >> Folder options >> then change the settings for visibility of hidden file and folder

(3) Then find for the Inbox repair tool(scanpst.exe) in your system

(4) Run it with the help of administrator privileges.

Select the PST file and click on start button for repairing

(5) After completing the process a list of recovered folders will be displayed. Drag the recovered items to your personal folder. There is not 100% surety that all the missing items will be recovered by Inbox-Repair tool.

However, in such a situation you can opt for a third party PST File Splitter to divide the large PST file into different small .pst files.
